Last Sunday we were performing at this special location, a former refugee boat of Rederij Lampedusa. It was intense and touching. And we really felt that all the people around us – young and old, with homes nearby or far away – were with us were while we were playing and telling our story.
About the boat: this Egyptian boat called Alhadj Djumaa. “Alhadj” means “the old wise man who has been on a pilgrimage”, “Djumaa” means “Friday”, so ‘Mister Friday’ (Mijnheer Vrijdag). This boat once carried 282 people to Europe who had to leave their (unsafe) homecountry. The boat has been transported from Lampedusa to the Netherlands. info http://www.rederijlampedusa.nl
